From DFW to Kisumu, Kenya with our stop in Londay

We left DFW on Friday 5/4.  I tried to sleep on the plane, got a couple hours.  Woke up in time for breakfast & land in London.  We made it down to see Big Ben, would love to have had more time but we didn't want to risk rushing back to our flight to Nairobi.  It was a cool 50 degrees in London & overcast.  Lluvia noticed everyone was light skinned (guess they don't get a lot of sun) plus I noticed everyone was wearing dark clothes.  As with the other places we went, the Americans are loud.  LOL.

We were off on Kenyan Airways to Nairobi.  LOVE LOVE this airline.  Big plane, great service, movies, lots more room.  I didn't get much sleep (tough sleeping on a plane for me) but I watched movies & napped as I could.

Finally we arrived in Nairobi.  No problems with luggage (TTL), exchanged money to schillings & then went to the domestic side of the airport for a lay-over & flight to Kisumu.  Justice met up with us here.  It was good to see him again.  The smaller Kenya Airways plane ride was very quick.  You barely get up & have a drink & then down we go.  You can see mountains & Lake Victoria from the plane.

We landed in Kisumu which has now became an International Airport since I was here in 2010.  The other building was old & small & the new was in awesome.  Hopefully one day folks can by pass Nairobi all together & fly to Kisumu.

It was Sunday afternoon in Kisumu.  We had been traveling since Friday night when we left Dallas.  We were a tired bunch but happy to be in Africa.

The Katito IPA staff gave up their Sunday to allow us to fly in on Sunday.  We were met by hugs & huge Kenyan smiles.  Alfred & Peter!  I was thrilled to see them.  I know the Africa culture is not the same but I still ran up & gave them big ole Texas hugs!!!

They drove us into town & it was a part of Kisumu I didn't remember seeing before.  We pulled up @ Kisumu Hotel which was a surprise.  I thought we were staying @ the other place.  I was a little worried about the safety in this location.  It was in the middle of town & very close to the streets.  The rooms had AIR CONDITIONING.  Oh my, I was so very happy to see that.

We had lunch & decided that if we wanted to go to the Market to shop, today was it.  I was so very tired but it was the best time to go.  World Vision was gracious to take us down there & help us out with our deals & our Shillings.  It's all so confusing.  But I ended up with 17 bracelets, some necklaces & other cool stuff.  I found the perfect giraffe for Isaiah so I was good to go.  It's a market were you haggle with the shops.  I think myself to be pretty good as this but when the lady you are dealing with is carrying
a small child, you realize that extra $1 or $2 needs to go to her!

The drivers took us down to the banks of Lake Victoria.  I was thrilled because I didn't get to see it last trip.  The lake does not look very clean @ all.  There were some fishing boats we took some pictures of.  You are quickly reminded after that ride on the dirt/rock road, we are not in Dallas & these folks have so very little compared to us.

We went back to the hotel, had dinner & got the security briefing.  The briefing is scary sometimes but it's just in case.  I've been to Kenya twice & never felt afraid.  Honestly places in the DFW area frighten me much more. Finally we are free to shower & get a good nights sleep.
